Sabre Rentals rents a magnetic locator which will find your ski if you go over top of it. Practice finding other stuff first. takes a while to train your ear to hear what you need to hear.
Your ski is not deep. just under the surface probably. Most skis we find are higher up the hill than people were looking.
Tape a bamboo pole (ski patrol will give you one) onto the magnetic locator to extend your reach. Keep your skis on. Start higher, traverse one way then the other sweeping the locator every 10" over the surface of the snow. go wider than you think. keep the locator on the surface as opposed to waving it around. Over lap your sweeps insuring you cover all the terrain so as you work your way down so you know for sure you covered the area properly.
That said some run, especially the big fat pow skis.
Think about which way the ski was pointing at the moment of release.
If you lost your phone and you have find my phone on the magnetic locator works well.
true the find my phones gps signal will bounce around a bit but do the same grid search as for skis. phones also don't go deep.

ps while standing at the point where you lost it take a screen shot of the location with a pin. and hopefully the gps coordinates which you can find on your compass on your phone. that way if you don't find it you can go back up in the summer and get it. The mountain looks totally different with no snow. the pin will lead to you to it.
